All sessions will be on Zoom and registration is required but it is free to attend.

About Peter Harms

Our fifth session features Dr. Peter Harms, an associate professor of Human Resource Management at UA and the Morrissette Faculty Fellow in Leadership and Ethics. His research focuses on the assessment and development of personality, leadership, and psychological well-being. He has published over 100 journal articles and is working on two books concerning personality assessment and leadership. His research has been featured in many popular media outlets such as CNN, Scientific American, Forbes, and the BBC. Invited to speak to audiences around the world, he was selected by the St. Gallen symposium as one of the “100 Knowledge Leaders of Tomorrow” in 2011. A fellow of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology and the Association for Psychological Sciences, he teaches mostly leadership, personnel selection, and research methods.
The stress and uncertainty of the pandemic have affected organizations and left leaders with questions about how to effectively manage their employees. Using his experiences working with the US Army and NASA in addition to his own research on the connections between leadership and stress, Dr. Harms will discuss the effects of stress on leader functioning and of leadership on the stress of those who work with them making suggestions about strategies for helping both sides face prolonged or extreme threats and stressors.
