Katelyn Schnell, a Culverhouse alumna, was awarded the 2020 SHRM Foundation Graduate Academic Scholarship for her studies at Southern Methodist University (SMU). She is the first UA student from the human resources management program to receive this scholarship.

Along with financial support, Schnell said the scholarship has provided motivation to excel in her graduate program.

“It is very exciting to know this national organization believes in me and my continued education,” Schnell said.

During her time at UA, Schnell majored in management with a specialization in human resource management. She’s currently pursuing a Master of Science in Management through the Cox School of Business at SMU. Schnell is most interested in the recruitment and talent development aspects of human resources and hopes to begin her career in one of those areas.

“In the future, I hope to use my business knowledge from my graduate program to be an HR business partner and eventually move into a management position within a large company’s HR department,” Schnell said.
