Dr. Jason Parton has recently been elected to membership in the International Statistical Institute (ISI), a nonprofit organization that aims to “promote the understanding, development, and good practice of statistics worldwide by providing a welcoming environment for advancing statistical knowledge, learning best practices, sharing state-of-the-art developments, and by creating opportunities to network.” The vast majority of ISI members are regular members. However, elected members are those who are “established in their careers and have made significant contributions to the statistical profession.”
Parton is director of the Culverhouse Institute of Data & Analytics and associate professor of statistics. In accepting this honor, he joins four other colleagues from the College’s Department of Information Systems, Statistics, & Management Science who are existing elected members: Drs. Subha Chakraborti, Volodymyr Melnykov, Qin Wang, and Jim Cochran. After receiving news of the elected membership, Parton said, “I’m humbled by this recognition and excited to continue to advance the statistics/analytic discipline through this organization.”
