Dr. English is an expert in implementing and modifying electronic health records (EHR), health informatics research, and extracting data from EHRs for research and quality improvement projects. He has successfully customized and implemented EHRs into 6 primary care clinics. His focus on workflows and data quality have resulted in multiple awards including the 2007 UAB Huntsville Outstanding Achievement Award and the 2012 UMass Memorial Champions of Excellence Award. Dr. English has leveraged his EHR experience for research and is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health and in the past has received funding from Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Veterans Administration, the Common Wealth of Massachusetts, National Cancer Institute, and Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Dr. English has published in a variety of clinical and informatics journals including the Journal of Medical Internet Research, the Journal of Biomedical Informatics, Annals of Pharmacotherapy, Family Medicine, and Clinical Pediatrics. Dr. English is a member of the American Medical Informatics Association, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, and the American Public Health Association.
