Learn about Culverhouse’s OSP Grant and Contract Specialist services proposal preparation functions such as budget development, reviewing solicitation guidelines, securing compliance approvals, reviewing and providing comments on applicant proposal packets, and submission of proposals. . Learn about the Cayuse Research Suite. This is a set of integrated, Web-based software modules that deliver flexibility and control in research administration. The University of Alabama’s Research Suite consists of two modules: Cayuse SP and Cayuse 424. Cayuse SP is designed to allow the electronic creation, tracking, and management of proposals and awards along with other aspects of research operations. Directed proposal development, electronic approval systems, and easy access to reporting foster research collaboration for research enterprises of all sizes. Cayuse 424 is an electronic proposal development and submission application. All proposals are initially developed in Cayuse SP; with a Cayuse 424 link added if the proposal will be submitted system to the system directly to Grants.gov.

Michele Kijeski

Senior Grants and Contract Specialist, UA Office for Sponsored Programs

Michele Kijeski has been with the Office for Sponsored Programs for 3 years, and before that she worked as the Departmental Research Administrator for the Department of Physics and Astronomy for 10 years. In her role as Sr. Grant Specialist, she assists with proposal preparation functions such as budget development, reviewing solicitation guidelines, securing compliance approvals, reviewing and providing comments on applicant proposal packets, and submission of proposals. She also works with post-award functions by initiating the setup of new, continuation, supplemental, and extensions of awards, including securing compliance approvals and legal review.

Jennifer Mills, CRA

Senior Grants Specialist / Electronic Research Administrator, UA Office for Sponsored Programs

Jennifer has been with the Office for Sponsored Programs for over 6 years. She earned her CRA certificate in 2019.  In her role as Sr. Grant Specialist, she works closely with faculty assisting in the preparation of proposal documents, budgets, reviewing proposals for adherence to Sponsor requirements, review of award notifications and requests to Sponsors regarding post-awards issues.  In addition, in her role as Electronic Research Administrator, Jennifer manages Cayuse, the UA database for Sponsored Projects and awards. Jennifer assists Faculty and Departments with learning the Cayuse Suite and maintaining accurate data.  Jennifer is also responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting for ORED and communicating with Digital Measures to ensure accurate reporting for Sponsored Projects.
