UA Business Students Answering Call for Help

  • October 10, 2016

Students in The University of Alabama’s Culverhouse College of Commerce are answering a dire call to help families in Haiti who were impacted by Hurricane Matthew. Accounting instructor Lisa McKinney is the faculty adviser coordinating the collection of supplies for Haiti. The students are placing bins around campus for collecting items and they are helping get the word out about their emergency drive.

“They are begging us to help and to help now,” says McKinney. “I offered to send money, but right now they have immediate needs for first aid and hygiene items. Some tell us their families in southwestern Haiti are living under trees with no food or water and with untreated injuries.”

Students have placed collection bins in Alston and Bidgood Halls and at the Ferguson Center.

McKinney says she will drive down to Miami on Thursday, October 13 with all of the items that she can collect between now and Thursday morning. The items will be flown to Haiti on a missionary flight that leaves Friday morning.
