Newest Research Labs Show-off Space

On March 31, 2019 the Culverhouse College of Business held its inaugural Research Showcase, an event designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the college’s research hub. Both the physical spaces in the Marillyn A. Hewson Data Analytics Laboratory and TIDE (The Interactive Decision Experiment) Lab were opened for tours to faculty and graduate students. The resources available to help with grant writing and accounting were demonstrated, as both Carolyn Powell (the Culverhouse grant writer) and Alaina Peoples (the Culverhouse grant accountant) gave presentations about exactly how they could facilitate sponsored projects for researchers.  Laboratory experiment demonstrations were performed to give a sense of the possibilities for using the various spaces and subject pools managed by TIDE lab.  Faculty and graduate students moved around the research hub as they became more familiar with the College’s research infrastructure.

To highlight some of the opportunities for research collaboration, about a dozen graduate students from departments throughout the Culverhouse College gave short presentations about their ongoing research. These talks were accompanied by slide presentations on the large screens in the Marillyn A. Hewson Data Analytics Laboratory and drew interested crowds from across disciplines. The Culverhouse Research Showcase is expected to become a regular college event to keep researchers informed about resources that are available to them.
