The Culverhouse College of Commerce Executive MBA Alumni Network’s mission is to strengthen the EMBA Program through recruitment efforts, and encourage and support alumni to achieve significant and lasting success in their business and professional careers while maximizing the value of knowledge and relationships gained before and after graduation.

Jennifer Thomas (TEMBA 2014), President, Executive MBA Alumni Network
Jennifer Thomas is Accountant III with Alabama Power. She is also currently vice president of Alabama Power’s networking group in her division which promotes unity, networking for all employees and exposure to different people in leadership positions. Alabama Power provides reliable electricity supply and unparalleled service to more than 1.4 million homes, businesses and industries. It is part of the Southern Company (NYSE:SO), a leading U.S energy company serving nine million electric and gas utility customers in nine states through its subsidiaries. Prior to working with Alabama Power Jennifer worked in the banking industry. It was during her time at Regions Bank that she knew she needed to attain her M.B.A. to take her career to the next level. Jennifer has a B.A. in Violin Performance and an M.A. in Music Education for Northwester University and a M.B.A. (EMBA Program) from The University of Alabama.
Russell Chambliss, Jr. (TEMBA 2006), Vice President, Executive MBA Alumni Network
Russ is Chief Financial Officer of Precision Grinding, Inc., a steel parts manufacturer in Birmingham. He is an experienced executive with 17 years of leadership in manufacturing and operations. Russ has extensive experience in financial planning and analysis, as well as operational planning and implementation. He has successfully planned, evaluated and implemented corporate objectives to improve operational efficiencies and expense reductions. Prior to joining Precision Grinding, he was Vice President of Administration and Operations (CFO and COO) of the Mason Corporation. Chambliss points to getting his MBA through this program as a pivotal point in his career with the knowledge gained and connections made as crucial to his profession growth. In addition to his M.B.A. (EMBA) from The University of Alabama, he has a B.S. in Biology from Furman University.
Russ Elrod (HEMBA 2013), Secretary, Executive MBA Alumni Network
Russ Elrod is Co-owner and General Manager of Arab Cartage & Express/Agent National, a full service transport and logistics solutions specialist. As a co-owner of his family business he has had the opportunity to experience all functional areas of a corporation. His undergraduate and graduate education from Culverhouse College of Commerce at UA has prepared him for the “strategic and tactical aspects of business. Russ has served on several Boards, including UA’s Culverhouse Board of Visitors, BancorpSouth Divisional Board of Directors and the Alabama Trucking Association Board of Directors. Russ holds a B.S. in Business Administration and an M.B.A. (EMBA Program) from The University of Alabama.
John Nettles (TEMBA 2003), Communications, EMBA Alumni Network
John is President of Pine Belt Communications, Inc., in Arlington, Alabama. His career began with the U.S. Army in March of 1982 as a 2nd LT, where he served on active duty until September of 1988. Upon returning home, he began working with Pine Belt, a company that his father founded in the mid 1950’s. Not having a business degree nor any experience at that time in the “for profit” world, John felt that he could improve his prospects of being an effective business leader by enrolling in UA’s EMBA program. The educational enrichment and the training in both the fundamental and advanced topics of business that he received from the program have proved invaluable. John holds a B.A. in History and an M.B.A. (EMBA Program) from The University of Alabama.
Russell Shamburger (TEMBA 2004), Past President, EMBA Alumni Network
Russell Shamburger is a Vice President Senior Business Process Analyst with Cadence Bank, an $8.2 billion regional bank with more than 70 branches in Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. Russell has over 20 years of experience in multiple functional roles and industries and proudly served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years. The EMBA Program has allowed Russell to see the “big picture” of how successful businesses like Cadence can continue to grow and help clients be successful.
