Dr. J. Brian Gray is the Associate Dean of the Manderson Graduate School of Business in the Culverhouse College of Commerce at The University of Alabama. He is also the Harrison Family Teaching Excellence Faculty Fellow and Professor of Statistics in the Department of Information Systems, Management Science, and Statistics. Dr. Gray came to the University in 1990, after spending seven years as a faculty member in the Department of Finance and Decision Sciences at Texas Christian University. He earned the MS and PhD degrees in Mathematical Sciences from Clemson University in 1980 and 1983, respectively. Dr. Gray attended the University of Alabama in Birmingham where he received a BS degree in Mathematics in 1978, with minors in Business Administration and Computer Science.
Dr. Gray is an active member of the American Statistical Association. His research interests include applied statistics, exploratory data analysis, data mining, business analytics, regression analysis, statistical computing, and statistical graphics. He has published research articles in journals including Technometrics, Journal of Computational and Graphical Statistics, The American Statistician, Computational Statistics and Data Analysis, Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, and Statistics and Computing. Dr. Gray received the Wilcoxon Prize for Best Practical Application Paper in Technometrics in 1984. He is co-author of two books, Basic Statistical Ideas for Managers (Second Edition) and Business Cases in Statistical Decision Making: Computer Based Applications. Dr. Gray has received several teaching awards from the MBA and Executive MBA Associations of The University of Alabama and Texas Christian University. In 2006, he received the Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award from the National Alumni Association of The University of Alabama.
